Sri Lanka will open airports for commercial tourist flights from January 21, 2021 and travel industry will have follow revised guidelines to be published shortly, Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga had said.

Both Mattala and Katunayake airports will be open, he said.

Tourists will be allowed to visit 14 locations

One of the places was Kandy Temple of the Tooth. If the Buddhist clergy raised objections to tourists visiting places of worship, they will not be visiting, he said.

The places of interest will not be closed for domestic visitors but there will be a process to separate local and domestic tourists, Minister Ranatunga said.

Minister Ranatunga said around three million persons depended on the travel industry and they had no livelihood from March 2020.

Revised health guidelines for tourists will be published shortly he said.

Travel industry companies that do not follow the rules will be blacklisted and not allowed to bring in tourists he said.
